Dr. Tami Shearer – Expert Veterinary Care for Your Best Friend
In 2004, the Washington Post described Dr. Tami Shearer as a “red-headed visionary who tries to imagine patient care in another way”.
Because of Dr. Shearer’s passion to care for older patients and patients that need palliative or hospice care, she has dedicated her life to include over 1000 hours of advanced continual education to obtain certifications to improve the quality of life of her patients.
In addition, she is studying to complete her Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Shearer created curriculum for the Chi Institute for veterinarians to become Certified TCVM Palliative and End of Life Practitioners. She also was one of four IAAHPC Task Force members that created the Certified Hospice and Palliative Veterinarian Certification course.
Her forward thinking has prompted national and international exposure through her lecturing and feature articles, since that 2004 article in the Washington Post. She also has authored chapters on hospice care in veterinary textbooks and lectured at the First International Veterinary Hospice Symposium. She is the creator of the 5 Step Hospice Care Plan for pets.

Mary Jo Bale
Mary Jo became a client in 2009 when her dog Rosie was injured and in need of advanced rehabilitation help. In 2010 Dr. Shearer recruited Mary Jo to join the practice because of her kindness, love of animals and professional background in hospitality. When she is not at work Mary Jo enjoys hiking, NASCAR, and spending time with her friends, family and dogs on the Little Tennessee River.
David Messer
David joined the practice in 2009. His experience from working in the profession for over 30 years and his compassion toward the clients and animals made for a perfect fit. He was taught invaluable skills by some of the regions great old-timer vets. He also is a wealth of regional history. When he is not working, he cares for his animals on his farm and is a host at Standing Indian Campground with his wife Sissy. He has 2 sons and 2 granddaughters.
Ted Rowe
Ted is our office manager and he joined the team in 2009. His background as a production manager for 33 years made him an ideal fit because of his organizational and people skills. Out of the office; he enjoys hiking and whitewater canoeing. He is a train enthusiast and has renovated 2 train cabooses that serve as wonderful and unique vacation rentals. He is married to Dr. Shearer.
