Dr. Shearer is a 1986 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2005, she received the degree of Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner from the University of Tennessee.

Her work in the community and outstanding patient care earned her three awards of distinction:

In 2004, the Washington Post sent a reporter to Columbus, Ohio to write a story about her pet hospice services.
Dr. Shearer is the first veterinarian in the state of Ohio to complete the regenerative stem-cell credentially course.
In addition to her work in the clinic, she is an author of 5 books, a guest lecturer at a Central Ohio vet school and local media advisor for Central Ohio television stations.
She has had national and international exposure through her lecturing and has been featured in the AVMA Journal, Bark Magazine, the Columbus Dispatch, and other newspapers. She also has authored chapters on hospice care in veterinary textbooks and lectured at the First International Veterinary Hospice Symposium.
She also lectures to other veterinarians around the country at national conferences on rehabilitation and hospice care. She is founder of the non-profit, Pet Hospice and Education Center.
After practicing in Ohio for over 22 years, she is focusing on lecturing and consulting with pet owners in her new office in Dillsboro, North Carolina while continuing to run the non-profit Pet Hospice and Education Center based in Ohio.
